Featured piece "Incantations"

Michael writes "the song "Incantations" was written originally in 1989, with a women-only version created in 2008. It is one of the most successful pieces I have written. The story of its composition relates to a rather eccentric moped I used to drive in the 1980s. The pitch of the engine was a G, and being a poor musician I couldn't afford a car, I spent many hours each week listening to the continuous purr of the motor. "Incantations" was born from that. At the time, and today, I was enamoured with the writings of the Medieval Irish poets and their stark images of nature. I wrote the text of the song based around some of these images."

Here are two contrasting performances of the piece the first is from the Lithuanian group Balsai full of character, and then below that a powerful performance by the MMEA Missouro All-State Choir 2011.
