Celebrations took
place last Thursday week for another great choral institution –
Anúna, marking its 15th birthday. The choir continues to
amaze, not just for its special sound but also for the imaginative style
of presentation with lighting, spatial effects and music. The only
puzzle is why they are not on the road full-time. Certainly it was
encouraging to find the National Concert Hall and the ESB promoting
their anniversary.
A range of popular
pieces from over the years demonstrated the fine form of the current
team, with wonderfully haunting effects in Jerusalem and
marvellous effervescence in Dúlamán. Founder, arranger,
composer and creative genius behind the choir, Michael McGlynn, is to be
congratulated wholeheartedly for this national treasure.
